Opening - prayers
2. Welcome of new members and new federations:
- Spain : Gonzalo Fabregas, President of the alumni from the College of Gaspe, Barcelona took the place of the former President, José Maria Cabezudo.
- J.I. Menendez, Vice-President of the Confederation and Director of the College of Gijon
- Our Lithuanian friends who already attended previous meetings. A national federation has been constituted; it is the merger of the associations of Kaunas and Villnius.

Fr. Dave Stewart SJ, new director
of YBJA, who is the successor of P. Grummit SJ.
New President in the
United Kingdom: John McCabe,
who could not attend.
- P. Pierre Salembier SJ, new spiritual advisor of the French federation.

Problems with the Irish federation,
which is very active in Ireland, but does not
participate at the European activities. This may be due to a lack of
communication.
Bernard Thompson will find out the name of the person responsible for Ireland.

Approval of the minutes
of the Paris meeting.
4. Presentation of the working framework for the four coming years by José Cabezudo
The alumni constitute a community, not only because of the value of their past, but thanks to what they are living in the present time, and will live in the future which still has to be constructed.
Before the 50th anniversary of our federation we have to continue the intensive and important work done during the past 50 years. It is necessary that the alumni show their presence within the framework of social change.
- Presence in the field of education working closely with the Society by intensifying their role at school but also of evangelisation. We can constitute good resources through the network represented by our organization.
- Presence in the field of the European construction in the context of a multicultural and global society.
- Presence in the field of sociological, scientific and technological transformation we are going through: bioethics, morality, and ethics.
- Presence of our organisational structures in the framework of the development of our relationship with the Eastern countries.
- Visualisation of our cooperation and our structures with the aim of achieving better communication.
The idea is to constitute working groups (centre of our action). Theses working groups will make suggestions to the Committee of Presidents of the Confederation. This implicates that the President and the other Bureau members will play a role of moderators-coordinators and this of course in close cooperation with the Presidents of each working group.
These working groups will be coordinated by:
- Education José «Nacho» Menendez
- European construction: José Cabezudo
- Morality and ethics Hervé Carrera
- Organization and Eastern Europe Felipe Garrido
- Networking and communication Bernard Kottrup
We will be going into this new
working method at the next meeting of our Confederation. Consequently we will
have less plenary sessions and more working groups. The result of our work
will be presented at the end of the mandate of the present Bureau during our
next Congress in 2005.
Discussions concerning this program:
- To respect the autonomy of the institutions and Colleges : We must content ourselves to offer our support as laypersons and to make our networks available.
- Points 1 – 3 would be suitable for our Congress, as they are of general interest. The suggestion is made to go deeply into the subject during the preparatory work and to leave the Congress with the elaboration of the results.
- The working groups will not work in an isolated way, but will discuss the result of their work during the different plenary sessions.
- Father Stewart points out that the 34. Congregation has decided to make a study about the subject Culture and Faith. The Society has formed working groups. It would be useful to know the results of theses groups on which we could base our work.
- In order to have a wider opinion base, it would be desirable to also discuss this subject within the different associations.

The first working groups have been
constituted.
4. Admission of the federation of the alumni of Lithuania
The Confederation admits the alumni of Lithuania as new members of the European Confederation. The Confederation decides to make a grant of 400 EUR as a financial support..
The Lithuanian federation submitted
its "Summer camp" project for young alumni and ask to spread useful in
formations concerning this summer camp within the national federations.
5. Financial report of Gianpaolo Marini
Presentation of the financial report of Gianpaolo Marini.
Approval of the account of the treasurer with the following
modifications:
- Financial aid of 600, - EUR to Lithuania for travel expenses
- Travel expenses in Calcutta for the President and the spiritual advisor

6. Discussions about the World Congress in Calcutta
A Sidney it had been decided that the Congress should be organised by the local organisation. This proved to be inconclusive.
The subjects concerning the other continents have not been tackled (Americas, Europe, Australia, Africa). Not everybody had the opportunity to introduce himself, so that the subjects treated have only been shown in an Indian light. It was primarily an Indian Congress with foreign participants
This should be taken into account for the next Congress.
Father General would like theses Congresses to take place in countries where we could give evidence and impetus.
Our proposal is to let the global union delegate the organization to the local federation, but to keep the control over the subjects tackled the union could influence.
It has to be emphasized that the
atmosphere was warm, the Indians gave us a very hearty welcome, and the
meeting with the alumni and the Jesuits was very pleasant..
7. Next meeting of the Congress 2005
Felipe Garrido offers to organize the next meeting of the
Confederation in 2005 in Lisbon.
No
counterproposal.
8. Calendar of the next meetings of the European Confederation
The next meeting will take place on November 8th and 9th in Berlin, the meeting in spring will take place in Rome. Our Italian friends will fix the exact dates.
Louis Cooreman suggests meetings at
fixed dates, as it had been decided in the past, which would mean that the
spring meeting would have to take place the first weekend in March and the
autumn meeting the second meeting in October. The advantage is that everybody
can plan in advance.
9. Thanks

2. Acceuil des nouveaux membres a la réunion et nouvelles des fédérations:
- Espagne: José Maria Cabezudo a été remplacé comme Président par Gonzalo Fabregas, Président des anciens élèves du Collège de Gaspe, Barcelone.
- J.I. Menendez, Vice-Président de la Confédération et Directeur du Collège de Gijon
- Nos amis lithuaniens venaient déjà a nos réunions. Une fédération nationale c’est constitué. Elle regroupe les deux associations de Kaunas et Villnius.

Problèmes avec la fédération
irlandaise, qui est très active en Irlande, mais ne participe
pas aux activités européennes. Ceci résulte peut-être d’un manque de
communication.
Bernard Thompson va rechercher le nom d’un responsable irlandais.

procès-verbal de la réunion de Paris
4. Présentation du cadre de travail pour les 4 prochaines années par José Cabezudo
Les anciens élèves constituent une communauté, qui n'est pas seulement unie de par la valeur du passé de chacun, mais aussi du présent que nous vivons et la position dans le futur, qui nous reste a construire.
A la veille du 50eme anniversaire de notre fédération nous devons continuer le travail intensif et important qui a été accompli durant ces 50 ans. Il est nécessaire, que la présence des anciens élèves se manifeste dans la transformation sociale.
- Présence dans l’éducation en collaboration étroite avec la compagnie en intensifiant notre démarche éducative, mais également d'évangélisation dans les écoles et centres de formation. Nous pouvons représenter une ressource importante à travers les réseaux que représente notre organisation.
- Présence dans la construction de l’Europe dans le contexte d’une société multiculturelle et globale.
- Présence dans le cadre des transformations sociologiques, scientifiques et technologique que nous vivons : bioéthique, morale, éthique.
- Présence de nos structures organisationnelles en rapport avec le développement des relations avec les pays de l’Est.
- Visualisation de la collaboration et des structures dans le but d’une meilleure communication.
L’idée consiste à former des groupes de travail (centre de notre action). Ces groupes de travail soumettront des propositions au comité des présidents de la Confédération. Ceci impliquerait que le président de la Confédération et les autres membres du Bureau aient un rôle d’animateur-coordinateur-synthetiseur et ce, bien entendu, en coopération étroite avec les présidents de ces groupes de travail.
Ces groupes de travail seront coordonnés par:
- Education José «Nacho» Menendez
- Construction européenne: José Cabezudo
- Morale et éthique Hervé Carrera
- Organisation et l’Europe de l’Est Felipe Garrido
- Réseau et Communication Bernard Kottrup
Cette nouvelle méthode de travail sera approfondie lors de la prochaine réunion de la Confédération. En conséquence, pendant les réunions, nous ferons moins de sessions plénières mais travaillerons plus en groupes de travail.
Les résultats de ce travail seront présentés à la fin du mandat de l’actuel bureau lors du prochain Congrès 2005.
Les discussions sur ce programme :

Respecter l’autonomie des instituions
et collèges.
Nous devons nous contenter de proposer notre soutien comme laïcs et de mettre
à disposition notre réseau
- Les points 1 – 3 seraient bon pour un congrès, étant d’un intérêt général. Proposition d’approfondir le sujet en guise de préparation et de laisser au congrès l’élaboration de résultats.
- Les groupes de travail ne restent pas isolés, mais présentent et discutent leurs résultats pendant les sessions plénières.
- Le Père Stewart fait remarquer, que la 34. Congrégation a décidé de faire des études sur les sujets Culture et Foi. Des groupes de travail ont étés formés par la Compagnie. Il serait utile de connaître les résultats de ces groupes et de nous baser dessus.
- Pour avoir une base des opinions plus large, il serait souhaitable, que le sujet seraient aussi discuté dans les associations.

4. Accueil de la fédération des anciens élèves de la Lituanie
La Confédération accueille les anciens élèves de la Lituanie en temps que nouveau membres de la confédération européenne. La Confédération a décidé d’accorder un montant de 400 EUR à titre de soutien financier.
La fédération lithuanienne présente son
projet d’un «Camp d’été » pour de jeunes anciens et demandent de propager les
informations concernant ce camp dans les fédérations nationales.
5. Rapport financier par Gianpaolo Marini
Présentation de l’aperçu financier qui a été transmis par Gianpaolo Marini à la réunion.
Approbation des comptes du Trésorier avec les modifications suivantes :
- Aide de 600, - EUR a la Lithuanie pour frais de voyage
- Frais de voyage à Calcutta pour le Président et le Conseiller spirituel

6. Discussion sur le Congrès mondial à Calcutta
A Sidney il a été décidé, que seule l’organisation locale serait responsable du déroulement du congrès. Cela n’a pas été concluant.
Les sujets concernant les autres continents (Amérique, Europe, Australie, Afrique) n’ont pas étés traités. Il n’avait pas été prévu que tout le monde puisse se présenter, avec la conséquence que tout sujet était principalement indien. C’était surtout un congrès indien avec une participation étrangère.
Pour les congrès à venir ce serait un point à revoir.
Le Père Général aimerait que les Congrès futurs aient lieu dans des pays ou nous pouvons témoigner et donner des impulsions.
Notre proposition à l’union mondiale est de déléguer l’organisation en elle-même à la fédération locale, mais de garder le contrôle et d’influencer le choix des sujets traités.
A retenir l’ambiance cordiale,
l‘accueil chaleureux de la part des indiens et la rencontre avec les anciens
élèves et pères jésuites locaux.
7. Prochain Congrès de la Confédération européenne 2005
Felipe Garrido se propose pour organiser le congrès à Lisbonne.
Pas de contre propositions.
8. Prochaines réunions de la Confédération européenne
La prochaine réunion se tiendra les 8 et 9 novembre à Berlin, la réunion de printemps aura lieu à Rome.. Date a fixer par nos amis italiens.
Louis Cooreman fait la proposition de
revenir aux dates fixes, comme il a été décidé il y quelques années. Cela veut
dire: la réunion de printemps le premier week-end de mars, la réunion
d’automne le deuxième week-end d’octobre. L’avantage est que chacun peu
prendre ses dispositions a l’avance.
9. Remerciements
La Confédération souhaite remercier la Fédération espagnole et en particulier le Père Sarrias pour l’accueil très cordial à Barcelone.
