1. Opening- prayer said by Father Luk Arts S.J
2. Approval of the report of the meeting of Vienna (October 9th and 10th
2002)
3. Project of a new way of functioning
Herve Carrera and Louis Cooreman presented a proposal concerning a possible
way of functioning of the Confederation, which was prepared by the Bureau of
the Confederation at its meeting in Zele in August 2002.
The idea consists in putting up working groups (action committees). These
working groups would put a proposition to the presidents of the
Confederation. This means that the president and the Bureau would have to
function as moderator - coordinator - reporters, and this, of course, in
close cooperation with the presidents of these working groups.
These working groups could work on the following topics:
- ignatian formation;
- communication ;
- young old pupils ;
- Eastern Europe ;
- the role of the Church ;
- cooperation between Jesuits/lays ;
- etc.
This new working method will be discussed in more details at the next
meeting of the Confederation.
4. Welcome of the Jesuit alumni/ae from Lithuania
The Confederation welcomed the Jesuit alumni/ae of Lithuania. The
Confederation decided to give 400 EUR as financial support.

6. World Union – World Congress in Calcutta (January 2003)
6.1 Presentation of the Charta “En todo”
At the moment, it is not sure if the organizers of the World Union have
planed to invite a speaker of the European Confederation.
However, everybody agrees that it would be appropriate to present the Charta
“En todo” on behalf of the European Confederation. On one hand, it would be
necessary to expose the broad outline of the text and on the other hand, to
explain the genesis of the text. The assembly suggests that José Maria
Cabezudo, Louis Cooreman and Bernard Thompson ensure this presentation at
the world congress.
6.2 Meeting of the Council and General Assembly of the World Union
François-Xavier Camenen underlines that the Council of the World Union will
meet on January 21st 2003. This Council is composed of 17 members: 4 de
facto members (president, vice-president, treasure and secretary) and 13
members representing the associations/federations, two of which represent
Europe (at the moment Gianpaolo Marini and Bernard Thompson who have been
elected in 1996). François-Xavier Camenen also announces that the General
Assembly will take place on January 14th 2003 at 2 p.m. He insists on the
importance of the participation of the Confederation (Europe having 24
voting rights). Further details will be given shortly.
6.3 Election of the European delegates at the Council of the World Union
Candidacy: Alain Deneef, Filipe Garido, Gianpaolo Marini, Herman von
Braunmühl. The presidents and the spiritual assistant of the European
Confederation elected Alain Deneef and Filipe Garido.
7. New Bureau of the European Confederation
José Maria Cabezudo was elected new president of the European Confederation.
He suggested Hérvé Carrera and Filipe Garido as vice-presidents; Bernard
Kottrup as secretary; Gianpaolo Marini as treasurer; José Maria Cabezudo
indicated that he would get some help from the headmaster of a Spanish
school. The presidents and the spiritual advisers of the European
Confederation approved theses candidacy unanimously.
This represents the end of the mandate of the Bureau of the European
Confederation under the presidency, during six years, of Louis Cooreman
assisted by Father Luk Arts S.J. as spiritual assistant.
8. Calendar of the next meetings of the European Confederation
The new Bureau will fix the new calendar very shortly.
9. Thanks
The Confederation wishes to thank the French Federation for the very warm
welcome in Paris.
