Movie Project "Franz Xaver"
The Central European Assistancy's provincial conference named the motto for the year 2002 "Franz Xaver", referring to the 450th anniversary of the death of Francis Xavier, the founder of Jesuits missionary movement. Even nowadays in the age of globalisation and interreligious exchange, he still challenges to rethink cultural infiltration and mission.
On the occasion of the motto "Franz Xaver" amongst others a TV production will be set up. A short outline of the idea: It is intended to use the film for many years. It should run for 45 minutes as a documentation put on scene. International marketing is planned. The character of Franz Xaver can be played by an actor. Though there is no intention to act out the scenes, rather texts will be read from backstage. The Saint's letters provide an authentic foundation for these texts. The plot should not end with Franz Xaver's death, but refer over Matteo Ricci and Adam Schall von Bell to present day times and catholic priests and church communities in Japan and China.
The activities about Franz Xaver will be coordinated by Kommunikationsreferat der Jesuiten in Zentraleuropa, Kaulbachstrasse 22a, D-80539 München, Fon +49/89/2386-2400, Fax +49/89/2386-2402, E-Mail online@jesuiten.org
Anybody, who can contribute ideas to this project is very welcome to forward those to the Kommunilkationsreferat: amongst others concerning his person and his activities, over the missions now and then, institutions named "Franz Xaver", to portraits of the Saint (paintings, pictures, sculptures etc.) or any suggestions to finance the film-project.
The realization of this TV production - estimated costs 500.000 Euro - is planned for 2001. The video version can be purchased from 2002 onwards for approximately 10.- Euro via DiaDienst Medien GmbH in Munich.
